Understanding Operations: Building Fluency across the Grades
Presented by Sara Delano Moore, Ph. D., Director of Mathematics and Science at ETA hand2mind

Rigor is driven by a balance among conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application.  After focusing on conceptual understanding of the operations, teachers must help students use their conceptual understanding to build procedural fluency, both with basic facts and a variety of algorithms.  In our community’s next webinar, Dr. Sara Delano Moore will share strategies for supporting students through this transition.   These strategies also support development of mathematical practices around mathematical structure and repeated reasoning.  Join Sara on April 15 to learn more about supporting students in building fluency across the grades.
